ImaginOn: The Joe and Joan Martin Center is a super cool place in Charlotte, North Carolina. It's a special partnership between the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library and the Children's Theatre of Charlotte. This amazing learning center is about 102,000-square-foot (9,500 m2) big! It first opened its doors on October 8, 2005.

ImaginOn is home to many fun and educational spots. These include the Spangler Children's Library, the Teen Loft, and Time Warner Tech Central. You can also find the Story Lab, Studio I (for making videos and music), and two theaters: the Hugh McColl Family Theatre and the Wells Fargo Playhouse. ImaginOn is also special because it was the first public building in Mecklenburg County to be certified as a 'green' building. This means it was built in a way that helps protect the environment.

Cool Spots for Teens and Kids

ImaginOn has dedicated areas designed just for young people. These spaces offer lots of ways to learn, create, and have fun.

The Teen Loft: Your Space to Create

The Teen Loft is a 4,000-square-foot (370 m2) area on the third floor made just for teens. It's a great place to hang out, read, or work on projects with friends. The Loft has a huge collection of books, graphic novels, DVDs, and CDs that teens will love.

Studio I: Make Your Own Movies and Music

Also on the third floor is Studio I. This is an awesome animation and sound studio. Teens can use it to make stop-motion videos or computer-generated animations. You can even create your own soundtracks! Teens using Studio I have won national awards for their public service announcements.

Tech Central: Computers and More

Tech Central is a computer lab with over thirty computers. It offers many activities for visitors under 19 years old. Adults can also use Tech Central if they are with a child.

Spangler Children's Library: Books for Younger Kids

The Spangler Children's Library is on the first floor of ImaginOn. It has a huge collection of books and materials for kids from babies up to fifth grade. This library also has special collections for teachers, parents, and caregivers.

Theaters at ImaginOn

ImaginOn is also a hub for live performances, thanks to its two fantastic theaters.

McColl Family Theatre: Big Shows for Families

The Hugh McColl Family Theatre is a large theater with 570 seats. It has 420 seats on the main level and 150 seats on the balcony. The Children's Theatre of Charlotte uses this theater to put on amazing professional plays for families. For example, "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" was one of the first shows performed here when ImaginOn opened in 2005.

Wells Fargo Playhouse: Intimate Performances

The Wells Fargo Playhouse is a smaller theater with 250 seats. It's perfect for more intimate performances. The Children's Theatre of Charlotte often fills this theater with their shows. The Library also uses it for film series and other fun programs.
