In Real Life is a cool reality show from Canada. It used to be called In the Real World. In the show, 18 young people, aged 12 to 14, travel all over North America. They compete in challenges that are like real-life jobs. The goal is to see if they have the skills, strength, and energy to succeed in the real world!
Apartment 11 Productions created and produced the show. The host is Sabrina Jalees, a funny Canadian comedian and actress.
In Real Life has won some awards! In 2010, the first season was nominated for the Shaw Rocket Prize. Sabrina Jalees was nominated for "Best Host" at the 2009 Gemini Awards. The show itself was nominated for "Best Children's or Youth Non-Fiction Program" at the 2011 Gemini Awards. Also, in 2011, Mark Lawrence, the director, was nominated for a Leo Award for "Best Direction."
The first season was supposed to start on February 4, 2009. It was called In the Real World back then. But it was delayed and finally premiered on March 4, 2009. The second season started on October 4, 2010. The third season began on October 3, 2011.

About the Show: How it Works
Each season of In Real Life features 18 kids. They are all between 12 and 14 years old. These kids come from all over Canada. They compete in different real-world jobs across North America.
At the start of each season, the 18 challengers are put into nine teams of two. Each team gets a special color. These colors include Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Teal, Purple, Grey, and Brown. In Season 3, Pink was used instead of Brown.
Challenges and Tasks
In each "experience" (episode), the teams compete in three or more tasks. These tasks are all related to one real-world job. For example, they might learn what it's like to be a firefighter or a chef.
Each experience also has a hidden "Shield." If a team finds this Shield, they can use it to protect themselves. This means they won't be eliminated from the game, even if they come in last!
Prizes and Eliminations
The first team to finish all the tasks wins a choice between two prizes. They can pick the "Big Reward" for something cool right away. Or, they can choose the "Wrench". The Wrench is a special item that slows down another team in the next experience.
The second team to finish gets the prize that the first team didn't choose. Usually, the last team to finish is eliminated from the competition. However, if they have a "Shield" and the second-to-last team doesn't, they are safe! Sometimes, an experience is a "non-elimination" round, meaning no one goes home.
A team can only use the Shield once. But if you find it, you can keep it for the whole competition.
Team Changes
When only five teams are left, the players get a chance to switch partners. They can split up and form new teams. Later, when only three teams remain, the teams are completely dissolved. From that point on, the challengers compete as single players.
The Grand Prize
In the very last experience, the winner is crowned the "In Real Life Champion." They also win money for college tuition. Plus, they get an amazing family vacation where all expenses are paid!
