Back to Malory Towers
The new school year begins! Darrell Rivers is now in the Fifth Form at Malory Towers. Her younger sister, Felicity, is starting her first year at the school.
They meet a new girl named Maureen. Also, two girls who were held back, Moira and Catherine, are still in the Fifth Form. The other students quickly find Moira and Catherine to be quite difficult.
Getting Ready for Christmas
The Fifth Formers have a big job this term. They are in charge of the Christmas entertainment! After a meeting, they decide to put on a pantomime version of "Cinderella."
Gwen and Maureen become friends, but Maureen often annoys Gwen. Gwen herself can be quite difficult, and she knows it! Catherine also causes problems for the Fifth Formers because she always tries to "help" people, even when not asked. Moira is very bossy and strict, which makes her unpopular.
First Form Fun
The Fifth Formers are too old for pranks, but the First Formers are not! They play a fun balloon trick. It works well, but June, the trickster, gets into trouble and is punished.
Casting the Play
Soon, it's time to hand out the parts for the "Cinderella" pantomime:
- Mary-Lou plays Cinderella
- Mavis plays the Prince
- Bill plays the Baron
- Louella plays the Fairy Godmother
- Rachel plays Buttons
- Pat and Rita play the Ugly Sisters
- Alicia plays the Demon King
While the parts are being given out, Darrell and Sally are busy writing the script. Irene is creating the music, Janet is designing the costumes, and Belinda is working on the scenery.
Trouble and Triumph
Felicity plays her first big hockey match and scores the winning goal! Meanwhile, Moira starts receiving mysterious, mean letters. Because of Moira's difficult behavior, Alicia and Betty decide to quit the play.
Soon, the girls discover that June is the one writing the mean letters. She is almost expelled from school! But Moira steps in and saves June from being sent home. After this, Alicia and Betty agree to rejoin the play.
Mam'Zelle, one of the teachers, plays a funny trick on the girls using some silly teeth. The students love the prank, even though the other staff members don't approve.
As the term nears its end, the big show is finally held. The "Cinderella" pantomime is a huge success! Darrell is very proud of the play she helped write. The book ends with Darrell enjoying her special moment, knowing there will never be another quite like it.
