The Indian Military Historical Society (IMHS) was a group for people who loved learning about the military history of India. It was mainly based in the United Kingdom, but it had members from many countries, including the British Commonwealth. This society closed down in December 2020. If you want to read their old magazines, called 'Durbar', you can find them with The Military Historical Society in the UK.

What Was the IMHS About?

The IMHS started in 1983. Its main goal was to bring together everyone interested in the military past of the Indian Subcontinent. This included people who were just curious, hobbyists, and even professional military historians. They were especially interested in the old British Indian Army before 1947. However, they also welcomed studies about later periods.

Important People and Publications

The society had some important leaders. Its President was Field-Marshal Sir John Chapple. The Vice-President was Rana Chhina, and C Kempton was the Secretary.

The IMHS published a well-known magazine called Durbar. This magazine came out every four months. It was highly respected by researchers and experts because of its excellent and original articles.
