Indoor cricket facts for kids
Indoor cricket is a fun and fast version of cricket played inside. It's different from regular cricket because it uses a smaller area. You can play many types of indoor cricket games. Some games are short, and others last longer.
The Indoor Cricket Playing Area
The indoor cricket court is about 30 meters long and 12 meters wide. The special playing area, called the pitch, is 20 meters long. It is 1.83 meters wide, except where the bowler throws the ball.
There are important lines on the pitch. A "running crease" is 11 meters away from the "batting crease." The batting crease is 17.56 meters from the other "popping crease." These lines help players know where to stand and run.
How to Play Indoor Cricket
In indoor cricket, batsmen score runs by running between their safe areas, called "grounds." These grounds are separated by the batting crease and the running crease.
The bowler throws the ball with part of their front foot behind the "bowling crease." This line is also called the "popping crease" at the bowler's end. It's not the same as the "wicket line," which is what regular cricket calls the bowling crease.
Bowlers can throw the ball underarm (like bowling a ten-pin bowling ball). If they do, the ball must bounce past a special "underarm line." Indoor cricket teams can have fewer than 11 players, which is different from outdoor cricket.
