Ineke De Moortel first earned a master's degree in math in 1997. She studied at a university called KU Leuven in Belgium.
She then got her Ph.D. in 2001 from the University of St Andrews. Her Ph.D. was about how waves move in the Sun's outer layer. Her supervisor was Alan Hood.
After her Ph.D., she stayed at St Andrews to continue her research. She became a professor there in 2013. Since 2019, she has helped edit a science magazine called Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society. She also helps judge the St Andrews Prize for the Environment.
