History of Innis
The community of Innis was named after a man called James Innis. He was one of many Irish people who came to America in the 1850s. At that time, Ireland was going through a very difficult period known as the Great Famine. Many people left Ireland to find a new life.
In 1868, James Innis bought land in this area. The community then grew around his property and took his name. Later, in 1895, a post office was opened in Innis, which helped the community connect with other places.
