Institut Mines-Télécom Business School, often called IMT Business School, is a well-known business school in France. It started in 1979 and was first known as INT Management, then Telecom Business School. It is a public school and part of Institut Mines-Télécom, which is a big group of engineering and management schools in France.
The school was first created by Orange Group, a major phone company in France. Even though it's now separate from Orange, they still work together on many projects. IMT Business School offers different study programs, from bachelor's degrees to PhDs. You can study in French or English.
One of its most important programs is the Masters in Management. Students who finish this program are highly valued by companies. They are especially good at working with engineers. In 2019, the Financial Times newspaper ranked this program 75th in the world. By 2022, it had moved up to 52nd in the world.
What is a Grande École?
Institut Mines-Télécom Business School is a special type of French school called a Grande école. These schools are different from regular universities in France. Think of them like the Ivy League schools in the United States or Oxbridge in the UK. They are very selective and hard to get into. Students must pass a tough exam to be accepted.
Graduates from Grandes Écoles often get important jobs in government, business, and other fields in France. While they might cost more than public universities, Grandes Écoles usually have smaller classes. Many of their programs are taught in English, which is great for international students.
These schools also focus on helping students get jobs. They offer chances for students to do internships abroad and have strong connections with businesses. IMT Business School is a member of the Conférence des Grandes Écoles (CGE). This is a group of top French schools. Out of about 250 business schools in France, only 39 are CGE members.
Degrees from IMT Business School are approved by the CGE and the Ministry of National Education (France). The school also has special international approvals from AACSB and AMBA. These are like stamps of approval that show the school meets high standards for business education around the world.
How Does Research Work Here?
IMT Business School has a main research lab called LITEM. This lab works with the University of Paris-Saclay. Many research projects are done with other schools that are part of IMT.
The research at IMT Business School focuses on new ideas in the digital world. This includes topics like artificial intelligence and how to use technology in a fair and ethical way. The school has special research groups that study things like how personal information is used online.
It is also a founding member of DATAIA. This is an institute that studies data science, artificial intelligence, and how they affect people. Researchers from many other famous schools and organizations are part of DATAIA. In 2018, the school had 25 students working on their PhDs, which are advanced research degrees.
Life on Campus
IMT Business School shares its campus in Évry with Télécom SudParis. Most students live right on campus. This means they share apartments and student clubs. They also take some classes together.
One popular activity is the "Challenge Projets d'Entreprendre." This is a one-week competition where students work in teams to create new business ideas. It started in 2000 and has inspired many other business schools to create similar programs. Students from both schools get to experience a lot of campus life together.
