The Institut aéronautique et spatial (which means Aeronautical and Space Institute), often called IAS, is a special organization in France. Its main job is to help coordinate education for the French aerospace industry. This includes everything from airplanes to rockets!
IAS was started in 1980 and is located in Toulouse, a city in France known for its aerospace activities. It works closely with GIFAS, which is the French Aerospace Industries Association. Many big aerospace companies are members of IAS, like EADS Group, Safran Group, Thales Group, Dassault Aviation, Airbus, and Eurocopter. Smaller companies that make aerospace parts are also part of IAS. IAS is also a member of another group called Institut au service du spatial, de ses applications et technologies.
What IAS Aims to Do
The main goal of IAS is to build a strong network with international partners. These partners are important players in the aerospace field in their own countries. IAS uses three main ways to achieve this:
- Helping with Schooling: They support academic training that leads to degrees. This means helping students get the education they need to work in aerospace.
- Offering Professional Training: They provide ongoing education and special training for people already working in the aerospace industry. This helps them learn new skills.
- Supporting Research: They encourage and help with research projects between different countries. This helps new ideas and technologies develop in space and aviation.
