International Balloon Festival of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu facts for kids
The International Balloon Festival of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu is Canada's biggest hot air balloon festival. It takes place every August in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec. This city is about 40 minutes southeast of Montreal. It's also halfway between Montreal and Vermont.
The festival happens at the Saint-Jean Airport. If the weather is good, there are two balloon flights daily. A morning flight takes off around 6:00 am. An evening flight launches between 6:00 and 7:00 pm. Good weather means no storms within 50 km and winds below 12 km/h.
Other fun activities at the festival include:
- Amusement rides
- Music concerts
- Comedy shows
- "Nuits magiques" (Magic Nights) where balloons are tied down and light up the night sky.
