The International Indian School Dammam (IISD) is a big school in Saudi Arabia. It used to be called the Indian Embassy School Dammam. This school teaches in English and covers grades from kindergarten up to 12th grade. Sunil Peter is the principal of IISD.

It's one of the largest schools in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. More than 16,000 students attend this school. Most students come from nearby cities like Ad-Dammam, Al-Khobar, and Al Qatif. IISD is part of a group of 10 Global International Indian Schools. Other schools in this group include International Indian School, Riyadh and International Indian School Jeddah.

About the School's History

The International Indian School Dammam started on October 10, 1982. It began with 250 students and 15 teachers. The first classes were held in a few temporary buildings. The school was officially opened by the Indian Prime Minister at that time, Indira Gandhi.

In 2006, the school grew and was split into two separate buildings. There is one campus for boys and another for girls. Together, these campuses cover about 9.8 acres of land.

What the School is Like Today

For the 2023-2024 school year, IISD has grown a lot. It now has about 16,750 students. There are over 750 teachers who help students learn. The school also has 38 staff members who handle administrative tasks. Plus, 75 janitorial staff keep the school clean.

The school uses 70 buses to transport students. These buses are hired from a private company. IISD follows the curriculum set by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in India. Students can choose to study Arts, Science, or Commerce.

How the School is Managed

The Ambassador of India acts as the main supporter, or "patron," of IISD. A group called the Managing Committee helps run the school. This committee sets the main rules and plans for the school.

The Principal and the school staff handle the daily activities. This setup helps the school run smoothly. The Managing Committee members are chosen by the Ambassador of India.

Here are some of the important members of the Managing Committee:

  • Sanoj Gopalakrishna Pillai (Chairman)
  • Mohammed Furquan
  • Syed Mohammad Firoz Ashraf
  • Misbahullah Ansari (He is the first former student to become a member of the committee!)
  • Moazzam Ghulam Abdul Kadar Dadan
  • Sadia Irfan Khan
