Irene Margaret Newton (born 1915, died 1992) was a talented British artist. She was well-known for designing textiles, painting, and teaching art.

Irene Newton grew up in a place called Truro in Cornwall, England. She went to the High School for Girls there. After high school, she studied art at the Truro School of Art from 1934 to 1938.

Her Career in Art

After finishing her studies, Irene worked as an art assistant. She helped out at art schools in Stourbridge and Hereford. Later, she became a teacher at the Elizabeth Gaskell College of Education in Manchester.

While teaching, Irene also created many textile designs. She made designs for both hand weaving and for machines to produce. In 1940, she became a member of the Royal Society of Arts. This is a special group that supports arts, manufactures, and commerce. She was also recognized by the Chartered Society of Designers.

Exhibitions and Later Life

Irene Newton showed her artwork in many important exhibitions. Her work was displayed with groups like the Royal Society of British Artists and the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists. She also exhibited her art at the famous Paris Salon.

Irene spent the last years of her life in Southport, which is in the north-west of England.
