Irina Baldina lived and worked in Leningrad for most of her life. She was a member of the Saint Petersburg Union of Artists. She is recognized as an important artist from the Leningrad School of Painting.

Irina Mikhailovna Baldina began her art studies in Moscow. From 1940 to 1941, she attended the Moscow Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts.

Her Art Education

After the Great Patriotic War (World War II), Irina Baldina moved to Leningrad. In 1945, she was accepted into the Department of Painting at the Repin Institute of Arts. There, she learned from famous teachers like Alexander Debler, Boris Fogel, and Alexander Segal.

In 1952, Baldina finished her studies at the Ilya Repin Institute. She worked in the workshop of Mikhail Bobyshov. Her final project was creating designs for the movie "Earth in Bloom."

Family Life

In 1947, she married Alexei Eriomin. He later became a well-known Russian painter. In 1948, they had a daughter named Natalia. Natalia also became a painter, following in her parents' footsteps. She also graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Leningrad.

Her Career as an Artist

Starting in 1951, Irina Baldina regularly showed her artwork in Leningrad art exhibitions. She displayed her paintings alongside other leading artists from the city. She mainly focused on painting portraits, landscapes, and still life scenes. In 1957, she officially joined the Leningrad Union of Soviet Artists.

Painting Style and Themes

During the 1960s and 1980s, Irina Baldina often painted the nature and people of the Lake Onega region. She created many paintings and sketches from real life. Some of her notable works include "The Road to Oyash" (1954) and "Young Rowan tree" (1956). She also painted portraits like "Natasha" (1960) and "A Postman Marya Petrovna Rodionova" (1967). She even painted a portrait of the famous composer "A Portrait of Dmitry Shostakovich" (1971).

Her painting style was broad and energetic. She used strong brushstrokes and her art became more decorative over time. She was very skilled at plein air painting, which means painting outdoors. This allowed her to capture the many different moods and colors of the northern nature.

Legacy

Irina Mikhailovna Baldina passed away in Saint Petersburg in 2009. Her paintings are now found in art museums and private collections around the world. You can find her works in Russia, France, Finland, the United States, Japan, Germany, England, and other countries.
