Irwin, Nebraska facts for kids
Irwin is a small, quiet place in Cherry County, Nebraska, in the United States. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. Instead, it's part of the larger county.
History of Irwin
Irwin got its start a long time ago. A post office, which is where people send and receive mail, was opened in Irwin in the year 1900. This post office helped the people living there stay connected. It operated for many years until it closed down in 1954. The community was named after a man named Bennett Irwin, who was a cattleman. A cattleman is someone who raises cattle, which are cows and bulls, often for meat or milk.
