Isabel Soveral (born in 1961 in Oporto, Portugal) is a Portuguese composer. She writes contemporary music, which is a modern style of music.

She studied at the Conservatório Nacional de Lisboa, a famous music school in Portugal. There, she learned from well-known composers like Jorge Peixinho and Joly Braga Santos.

In 1988, Isabel Soveral went to the State University of New York at Stony Brook in the USA. She continued her studies in composition with Daria Semegen and Bulent Arel. She earned her master's degree in 1991 and her PhD in 1994 from this university.

She received support from important groups like the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the Luso-American Foundation, and the Fulbright Program. These foundations help talented people with their studies and work. Isabel Soveral is part of a special group of Portuguese composers who became famous in the 1980s.

Isabel Soveral's Musical Journey
