Isabel Stewart North (born June 20, 1860, died March 6, 1929) was an American woman who wrote music. She was also a music teacher and published her own songs.

Early Life and Education

Isabel was born in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. Her parents were Lucy R. Royer and J. Sewell Stewart. She loved music from a young age.

Isabel studied music at the Burlingame Seminary. Later, she continued her studies in Boston with famous teachers. These included Chevalier DeKonski, Arthur Foote, and Thomas Tapper. In 1882, she married Herman H. North. They had one son named Jay.

Music Career and Teaching

The North family settled in Bradford, Pennsylvania. There, Herman North became the mayor. Isabel opened her own music school, called a conservatory. At her school, she taught students how to play the piano and how to sing.

Isabel also started her own company, the North Publishing Company. This company helped her publish her own music. Her songs were performed by touring singers, like the contralto Eleanor Patterson. A contralto is a singer with a low female voice. Isabel North was also mentioned in advertisements for Weaver Pianos.
