Isabella of Urgel was a queen who lived a long time ago, in the 11th century. She became the Queen of Aragon by marrying King Sancho Ramírez. Aragon was a kingdom in what is now Spain. Isabella was an important figure in her time, even though we don't know many details about her life.

Her Family and Early Life

Isabella was the only daughter of Ermengol III, Count of Urgell. Her mother was Adelaide of Besalú. Urgell was a county, a type of territory ruled by a count, in what is now Spain.

We know Isabella existed because she is mentioned in the will of her brother, Ermengol IV, Count of Urgell. A will is a legal document that says what someone wants to happen to their belongings after they die.

Becoming Queen of Aragon

In 1065, Isabella married King Sancho Ramírez. When she married him, she became the Queen of Aragon. A queen who is married to a king is called a queen consort.

Isabella and King Sancho had one son together. His name was Peter I of Aragon and Navarre. Peter later became king after his father. However, Peter did not have any children who lived to adulthood.

Isabella and King Sancho divorced in 1070. After their divorce, both Isabella and Sancho married other people. Isabella might have married again in 1071 to William I, Count of Cerdanya.

Isabella of Urgel died in the year 1071.
