Isidoro Blaisten (born January 12, 1933 – died August 28, 2004) was an important writer from Argentina. He was known for his short stories, essays, and poetry.
Isidoro Blaisten was born in Concordia, Argentina. His parents were David Blaisten and Dora Gliclij. His family was part of the many Argentine Jews who lived in the countryside of Entre Ríos Province in the early 1900s. Even though his birth name was Blaistein, he later chose to spell it Blaisten.
He had a very interesting career. Before becoming a famous writer, he worked as a publicist and even a child photographer! Later, he became a neighborhood bookseller, which meant he loved being around books and stories. He also wrote for different newspapers and magazines in Argentina, sharing his ideas and stories with many readers.
From 2001 until he passed away, Blaisten was a member of the Academia Argentina de Letras. This is a very important group that looks after the Spanish language and literature in Argentina. He was also connected to the Real Academia Española, which is a similar important group in Spain.
