Early Life and Education
Isidre Molas was born in Barcelona in 1940. His father, Isidre Molas i Font, was a musician. Isidre also has a brother, Joaquim Molas i Batllori, who is a historian and writer.
In 1963, Isidre Molas finished his law degree at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. During his younger years, he was very active in groups that worked for social change. He was part of the Front Obrer de Catalunya (Workers' Front of Catalonia). He also joined the Frente de Liberación Popular (Popular Liberation Front), a group that opposed the government at the time. Because of his political activities, he faced challenges in 1962.
Political Career
Serving in the Catalan Parliament
After a period of political change in Spain, the first democratic elections were held in Catalonia. In the 1980 Catalan parliament election, Isidre Molas was chosen as a deputy. This meant he represented the people in the Parliament of Catalonia. He served in this role until 1988.
Leading the PSC in Barcelona
From 1985 to 2008, Molas was the President of the Socialists' Party of Catalonia (PSC) in the Province of Barcelona. This was a very important job, as he helped lead the party's activities in a large area.
Becoming a Senator
In the year 2000, Isidre Molas was elected as a Senator for Barcelona. He was chosen as part of the Catalan Agreement of Progress. This was a group of left-wing parties that supported Catalan identity. As a Senator, he helped make laws and represent the people of Barcelona in the national government.
Work as a Historian
Besides his political work, Isidre Molas is also a respected historian. He has translated many books. He has also written articles about political science, which is the study of how governments work.
