Marisol Misenta (born March 6, 1972), known as Isol, is an Argentine artist. She creates children's picture books and is also a pop singer. In 2013, she won the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award. This is the biggest prize in children's literature worldwide. It celebrates her amazing work in children's and young adult literature.

About Isol
Isol was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she still lives. She studied to become a Fine Arts teacher. She also studied art at the University of Buenos Aires. Later, she decided to focus on illustrating and writing children's books. This combined her love for comics, stories, and art.
Her First Books
Isol's first book, Vida de perros (A Dog's Life), came out in 1997. It received an award before it was even published! Since then, she has written and illustrated many of her own books. She has also drawn pictures for books by other authors, like Paul Auster.
Her unique way of telling stories through drawings is special. Her art is often simple but can also be funny or thoughtful. Because of her style, her books have been published in many countries. These include Mexico, Spain, the USA, France, Korea, Switzerland, and Argentina.
Working with Newspapers
From 2000 to 2005, Isol drew a weekly picture for a big newspaper in Argentina called Clarín (Argentine newspaper). She illustrated famous children's stories for their Sunday magazine. She also worked for other newspapers and magazines.
Today, Isol mainly focuses on creating children's picture books. She sometimes works on other art projects, like comics. For example, she contributed to the book Consecuencias in 2000. She also worked on Under the Spell of the Moon in 2004.
Awards for Her Books
Isol has received many awards for her illustrations.
- In 1999, she took part in a workshop for illustrators in Slovakia.
- In 2003, she won the Golden Apple Award for her drawings in the book Tic Tac.
- Her books El Globo (The Balloon) and El cuento de Navidad de Auggie Wren (Auggie Wren's Christmas Story) were chosen for the White Ravens list in 2003 and 2004. This list highlights excellent children's books.
- Her book Tener un patito es útil (It's Useful to Have a Duck) was recognized by the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) in the USA. It also won an award in Mexico and was chosen as a best book in Venezuela.
- Isol was a finalist for the international Hans Christian Andersen Award in both 2006 and 2008. This award is another very important prize in children's literature.
- In 2013, she won the prestigious Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award.
Singing Career
Besides her art, Isol is also a talented singer.
Early Music Projects
From 2000 to 2005, she was the lead singer for the band Entre Ríos (band). They released three albums. Their music was published in Argentina, Spain, Japan, the USA, and Mexico. Since 2002, she has also been part of a Baroque Chamber Music group called The Excuse.
In 2004, Isol was a solo singer in a play called Nocau. This play featured dance and music at the Colon Theater in Buenos Aires.
Collaborations and SIMA
In 2006, Isol started working with the band Alsace Lorraine. She sang and helped write six songs for their album Dark One.
In 2008, she formed a duo with her brother Zypce called SIMA. They released their first album, also called Sima. It included their own songs and two songs by a writer from Uruguay. This album was released in the USA and Argentina.
In 2014, SIMA released their second album, "Novela Gráfica" (Graphic Novel). This project was very creative. It included 11 songs and 11 comics! Many talented artists from different countries helped create the comics. The album's design won an award.
