Itsudatte My Santa! (which means Always My Santa!) is a fun Japanese story. It started as a manga (a Japanese comic book) created by Ken Akamatsu. This manga was first published in Shōnen Magazine in 1997. It was a single chapter story before Akamatsu's famous series Love Hina began.

Later, this story was made into an anime OVA. An OVA is like a short anime movie or series made directly for home video. This Itsudatte My Santa! OVA has two episodes. It was released in Japan on December 8, 2005. In the United States, it was licensed by Funimation. It was supposed to come out on December 11, 2007. However, there was a mix-up with the age rating on the DVD, so it was taken back.

The Story of Itsudatte My Santa!

A Boy Who Hates Christmas

The story is about a boy named Santa. He was born on December 24th, which is Christmas Eve. Because of his name and birthday, he really dislikes Christmas. When he was a child, he never had fun birthday parties or holiday celebrations. This made him feel quite lonely and sad about the festive season.

Mai's Special Mission

One day, a girl named Mai appears before Santa. She is a student from the Santa Claus Academy. Mai has a special mission: to use the magic of Christmas to help Santa. Her goal is to improve his luck and change his negative feelings about the holiday. She wants him to start believing in the joy of Christmas.

Meet the Characters

Santa

Santa is a lonely boy who really dislikes Christmas. People often tease him because of his unusual name. His parents were not around much when he was growing up. His feelings about Christmas begin to change after he meets Mai.

Mai

Mai is a student at the Santa Claus Academy. She has some trouble using her magic properly. She can only create things that start with the sound "san" in Japanese. Mai was sent to help Santa feel better. During her mission, she starts to fall in love with him.

Mai first appears to Santa as a junior high school student. As Santa starts to believe in Santa Claus, Mai gains more Christmas power. This power allows her to transform into her grown-up form.

Sharry

Sharry is Mai's best friend and also her rival. She is a very skilled student at the Santa Claus Academy. When Sharry uses her magic, she says "Gorgeous!" Her magic can make any object grow to a very large size. She was sent to bring Mai back to the academy to finish her studies.

Miamiamia

Miamiamia is Mai's little sister. She comes to live with Mai and loves to follow her big sister everywhere. She also tends to slap anyone who stops her from spending time with Mai. At the end of the OVA, it is revealed that Mai actually snuck away from the Santa Claus Academy. Sharry was supposed to retrieve Mai all along.

Teacher Holly

Teacher Holly is a teacher from the Santa Claus Academy. She tells Mai that she needs to say goodbye to Santa. Mai is supposed to go back home and continue her studies. However, Mai might have misunderstood what Teacher Holly told her.
