Ivan Alexandrovich Bukavshin (Иван Александрович Букавшин; born May 3, 1995 – died January 12, 2016) was a talented chess player from Russia. He became a Grandmaster in 2011. This is the highest title a chess player can earn. Ivan was also a three-time European champion in his age group.

Ivan Bukavshin started playing chess at a young age. He quickly showed great skill. He won many important tournaments for young players.
Youth Championships
Ivan won three gold medals at the European Youth Chess Championships. He won the Under 12 section in 2006. Then he won the Under 14 section in 2008. Finally, he won the Under 16 section in 2010. These wins showed he was one of the best young players in Europe.
Major Tournaments and Achievements
In 2013, Ivan tied for first place at the Chigorin Memorial in Saint Petersburg. This is a very famous chess tournament. Many strong players competed there.
The next year, in 2014, he tied for first place again at the same tournament. He finished second after a tiebreak. This means his score was equal, but another rule decided the winner.
In 2015, Ivan won the Russian Junior (Under 21) Championship. This was a big win for him in his home country.
Later Career Highlights
In April 2015, Ivan took third place at the Aeroflot Open in Moscow. This is another very strong international tournament.
Later that year, in July, he tied for first place at the Russian Championship Higher League. This event helped him qualify for the Superfinal of the Russian Chess Championship. He played well in the Superfinal.
Ivan also played in the Chess World Cup 2015. He qualified for this big event through the European Individual Chess Championship. He was eliminated in the first round after some fast-paced tiebreaker games.
In December 2015, Ivan won two more important tournaments. He won the 11th Ugra Governor's Cup. He also won the Russian Cup knockout tournament. He beat Dmitry Kokarev in the final match.
