The Izaak Walton Inn is a cool historic hotel located in Essex, Montana, USA. It was built way back in 1939 by the Great Northern Railway. Its main purpose was to give railway workers a place to stay. There was also a big idea for it to be a main entrance to Glacier National Park, but that plan never happened.

Today, the inn is super unique because it's the only request stop on Amtrak's Empire Builder train route. This means the train only stops there if someone asks! A special van from the inn picks up passengers from the Essex station when the train arrives, both in the morning and evening.

A Special Hotel by the Tracks

The Izaak Walton Inn is built in a style called Tudor Revival. This style looks a bit like old English houses. The inn was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. This means it's recognized as an important historic building.

The inn is privately owned and is open almost all year round. It's a great place to visit if you love trains or want to explore the beautiful Montana outdoors.

Sleeping in History: Unique Rooms

The Izaak Walton Inn has 33 rooms inside the main building where guests can stay. But what makes it extra special are its unique lodging options! You can even sleep in old, refurbished cabooses. These are the small cars at the end of a train.

They also have an EMD F45 Diesel Locomotive 441 that has been turned into a luxury place to stay. Imagine sleeping inside a real train engine! It's a truly one-of-a-kind experience for visitors.

A Historic Landmark

Being listed on the National Register of Historic Places means a building is important to the history of the United States. It helps protect these special places for future generations. The Izaak Walton Inn earned this honor because of its unique history and connection to the railway. It's a cool example of how trains helped shape towns and travel in the past.
