Jürgen Prochnow (born June 10, 1941) is a famous German actor. He became well-known around the world for his role as the kind U-boat Commander "Der Alte" (which means "Old Man") in the 1981 war movie Das Boot.
He has also acted in many other popular films. These include The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum (1975), Dune (1984), and Beverly Hills Cop II (1987). You might also know him from The English Patient (1996), Air Force One (1997), and The Da Vinci Code (2006). He also played Sergei Bazhaev in the TV show 24 (2010). Jürgen Prochnow has won several awards, like the Goldene Kamera and the Bambi Award.

Jürgen Prochnow was born in Berlin, Germany, on June 10, 1941. He grew up in a city called Düsseldorf. His father worked as an engineer.
His Acting Career
Jürgen Prochnow's big break was playing the U-boat Commander in Das Boot in 1981. This role made him famous worldwide. He also starred in the movie Forbidden (1985), which was nominated for a German Film Award.
He played Arnold Schwarzenegger in a 2005 movie called See Arnold Run. This film was about Arnold Schwarzenegger's political life in California. Prochnow also appeared in Wing Commander (1999) and the comedy Beerfest (2006).
Did you know that Jürgen Prochnow has also lent his voice to other actors? He dubbed Sylvester Stallone's voice in the German versions of Rocky (1976) and Rocky II (1979). Jürgen Prochnow has been married three times. In 1982, he married Isabel Goslar. They had two children, a daughter named Mona and a son named Roman. They later divorced in 1997.
From 2004 to 2014, he was married to Birgit Stein. Since 2015, he has been married to actress Verena Wengler.
Prochnow used to live in both Los Angeles and Munich. He became a citizen of the United States in 2004. In 2017, he shared that he had moved back to Berlin, Germany.
