J. R. Patton's Racing Journey

J. R. Patton studied at New Mexico State University. He majored in business marketing there. He is also a member of the Zia people.

Early Career and Rookie Award

In 2003, Patton won a big award. He was named Rookie of the Year. This was in the NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Tour. This award goes to the best new driver.

Racing in the Truck Series

Patton started racing in the 2004 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. He made seven starts that season. He drove for a team called Fiddleback Racing.

His first race was at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. He finished 15th in that race. This was his best finish in the series. He completed almost all of his races that year.

In 2006, Patton hoped to race more. He planned to drive for MB Motorsports. He wanted to compete for Rookie of the Year again. However, he was not able to qualify for any races that season.
