A Look Back: The Resort's History

The JW Marriott Turnberry Resort has been around for a long time. It first opened its doors on November 7, 1967. Over the years, it has changed owners and names.

How It Started

The resort was first created by a group of people. These included Donald Soffer, Mark E. Mason, Eugene Lebowitz, and Edward J. Lewis. They were part of a company called Oxford Development. They worked together to build this big resort.

Changes Over the Years

In 1988, Donald Soffer sold part of the resort to another company. Later, the rest of it was also sold. For a while, it was managed by the Mandarin Oriental Hotel group. But in 2005, Donald Soffer's company, Turnberry Associates, bought it back.

In 2012, the resort became part of the Autograph Collection Hotels. Then, in 2017, there were plans for big changes. The resort was expanded and became a JW Marriott property. This change happened on December 19, 2018.
