Javid David Álvarez Fernández (born December 13, 1983) is a talented singer and songwriter from Puerto Rico. He is widely known as J Álvarez.
He became famous for his popular songs like "La Pregunta," "Junto al Amanecer," "Sexo, Sudor y Calor," and "Regálame Una Noche."

Early Life and Music Dreams
J Álvarez was born in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico. His parents are both from the Dominican Republic.
When he was 12 years old, J Álvarez sang his very first song, "Lo Que Ella Trae" (What She Brings), in front of his classmates and teachers. This was an early sign of his musical talent.
As a child, he loved listening to reggaeton and hip hop artists. His music was inspired by famous artists like Tego Calderon and Busta Rhymes.
Even though he played basketball when he was younger, J Álvarez decided to follow his dream of becoming a musician.
Musical Journey
Starting Out: 2009-2010
J Álvarez got a big break thanks to his cousin. He met DJ Nelson, a well-known music producer. They quickly started working together.
In 2009, J Álvarez signed with Flow Music. That same year, he released his first mixtape, El Dueño Del Sistema. A mixtape is like an album with a collection of songs. This mixtape featured collaborations with popular artists such as De La Ghetto, Jowell & Randy, and Ñejo & Dalmata.
He released his second mixtape, El Movimiento: The Mixtape, on September 12, 2010.
Rising to Fame: 2011-2015
J Álvarez released his first official studio album, Otro Nivel De Musica, on September 20, 2011. This album included hit songs like "La Pregunta" and "Junto Al Amanecer." Both songs became very popular and appeared on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart.
A special version of the album, Otro Nivel De Musica Reloaded, came out on May 1, 2012. This album was loved by fans and was nominated for "Best Urban Music Album" at the 2012 Latin Grammy Awards. In 2014, "La Pregunta" was also nominated for "Urban Song of the Year" at the 26th Lo Nuestro Awards.
On February 18, 2014, he released his second studio album, De Camino Pa' La Cima. This album quickly became very successful. It reached number 2 on the Top Latin Albums chart and number 1 on the Latin Rhythm Albums chart. It featured collaborations with artists like Mackie, Zion, and Daddy Yankee.
On January 27, 2015, J Álvarez released De Camino Pa' La Cima Reloaded. This was his fourth studio album and included songs with Cosculluela and Wisin. This album also reached the number 1 spot on the Top Latin Rhythm Albums chart and stayed there for about a month.
More Hits and Albums: 2016-2020
In September 2016, J Álvarez released his third studio album, Big Yauran. This album reached number 8 on the Top Latin Rhythm Albums chart. One of its songs, "Haters," also became a hit on the Hot Latin Songs chart.
In March 2018, he released his fourth album, La Fama Que Camina. This album featured popular songs like "Esa Boquita," "De La Mia Personal," and "Rico Suave."
In November 2018, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) recognized that his song "De La Mia Personal" had reached platinum status. This means it sold a lot of copies!
On April 24, 2019, J Álvarez was a main performer at the Billboard Sounds Showcase in Las Vegas. On March 5, 2021, he worked with Marie Monti and Mariah Angeliq on a song called "Billete."
Recent Works: 2020-Present
J Álvarez continues to make new music. He released El Toque de Midas in 2022. His latest album, Barrio Colombia, came out in 2023.
