Javid David Álvarez Fernández (born December 13, 1983), known as J Álvarez, is a popular singer from Puerto Rico. He is famous for his hit songs like "La Pregunta", "Junto al Amanecer", "... Sudor y Calor", and "Regálame Una Noche".

Early Life and Inspiration

J Álvarez was born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. His parents are both from the Dominican Republic. When he was 12 years old, J Álvarez sang his first song, "Lo Que Ella Trae," for his classmates and teachers.

As a child, he loved listening to reggaeton and hip hop artists. His music was inspired by artists like Tego Calderon and Busta Rhymes. He played basketball when he was young, but he chose to follow his dream of becoming a musician instead.

Musical Journey

Starting His Career (2009-2010)

J Álvarez met DJ Nelson through a family connection. They worked well together, and J Álvarez signed with Flow Music in 2009. That same year, he released his first mixtape, El Dueño Del Sistema. This mixtape featured collaborations with famous artists like De La Ghetto, Jowell & Randy, and Ñejo & Dalmata. He then released a second mixtape, El Movimiento: The Mixtape, on September 12, 2010.

Rising to Fame (2011-2015)

His first studio album, Otro Nivel De Musica, came out on September 20, 2011. It included hit songs such as "La Pregunta" and "Junto Al Amanecer." These songs were his first to appear on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart. A special version of the album, Otro Nivel De Musica Reloaded, was released on May 1, 2012. This album was very popular and was nominated for Best Urban Music Album at the 2012 Latin Grammy Awards. In 2014, "La Pregunta" was nominated for Urban Song of the Year at the 26th Lo Nuestro Awards.

On February 18, 2014, J Álvarez released his second studio album, De Camino Pa' La Cima. This album reached number 2 on the Top Latin Albums chart and became number 1 on the Latin Rhythm Albums chart. It featured collaborations with artists like Mackie, Zion, and Daddy Yankee. On January 27, 2015, he released De Camino Pa' La Cima Reloaded, which included songs with Cosculluela and Wisin. This album also reached the top spot on the Top Latin Rhythm Albums chart and stayed there for about a month.

Continued Success (2016-2020)

In September 2016, J Álvarez released his third studio album, Big Yauran. This album reached number 8 on the Top Latin Rhythm Albums chart. One of its songs, "Haters," also charted on Hot Latin Songs.

In March 2018, he released his fourth album, La Fama Que Camina, which was certified gold. This album featured popular songs like "Esa Boquita," "De La Mia Personal," and "Rico Suave." In November 2018, the song "De La Mia Personal" was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.

On April 24, 2019, J Álvarez was a main performer at the Billboard Sounds Showcase in Las Vegas. On March 5, 2021, he worked with Marie Monti and Mariah Angeliq on a song called "Billete."

He released his fifth studio album, El Jonson (Side A), on July 1, 2020. Later, on September 11, 2020, he released El Jonson (Side B).

On June 10, 2022, J Álvarez released his album El Toque de Midas.

His album Barrio Colombia was released on June 29, 2023. He also released an EP called Barrio Colombia 2 on August 8, 2024.
