Jack Bird, born on March 20, 1995, is an Australian professional rugby league player. He plays as a centre, five-eighth, or second-row forward for the Wests Tigers in Australia's top rugby league competition, the National Rugby League (NRL).

Before joining the Wests Tigers, he played for the Brisbane Broncos, St. George Illawarra Dragons, and the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks. With the Sharks, he helped them win the 2016 NRL Grand Final. Jack has also represented his state, New South Wales, in the tough State of Origin games, and played for other special teams like Country Origin, the Prime Minister's XIII, and the Indigenous All Stars.

Early Life and Junior Career

Jack Bird was born in Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. He has Indigenous Australian heritage.

He started playing junior rugby league for the Berkeley Eagles. Later, he was signed by the St George Illawarra Dragons.

Playing Career Highlights

Starting in the NYC

In 2013 and 2014, Jack played for the St. George Illawarra Dragons' NYC team. He played 37 games and scored 15 tries.

In May 2014, Jack played for the New South Wales under-20s team. They won 30–8 against the Queensland under-20s team. Later that year, he signed a two-year contract with the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks. In October 2014, he also played for the Junior Kangaroos.

Joining the Cronulla Sharks (2015-2017)

Jack made his NRL debut for the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks in April 2015. He played against the Gold Coast Titans. In his next game, he played as a five-eighth and scored two tries, helping the Sharks win.

In May 2015, Jack played for New South Wales Country against New South Wales City. Country won the game 34–22. At the end of 2015, Jack was named the Dally M Rookie of the Year. He played 23 matches and scored 8 tries for Cronulla.

In 2016, Jack played for the Sharks in the 2016 NRL Auckland Nines. He also played for Country Origin again.

State of Origin Debut

In June 2016, Jack made his debut for New South Wales in the 2016 State of Origin series. He played off the bench in two games for the Blues.

Winning the Grand Final

On October 2, 2016, Jack played in the 2016 NRL Grand Final for Cronulla against the Melbourne Storm. He played at centre and helped his team win the historic game 14–12. He played 26 matches and scored 6 tries for Cronulla-Sutherland in 2016.

In February 2017, Jack played for the Indigenous All Stars team. He scored a try in their 34–8 win.

In April 2017, it was announced that Jack would join the Brisbane Broncos starting in 2018. He continued to play for New South Wales in all three 2017 State of Origin series matches. Jack finished his time with the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks having played 17 matches and scoring 3 tries in 2017.

In September 2017, Jack played for the Prime Minister's XIII team against Papua New Guinea. His team won 48–8.

Time with the Brisbane Broncos (2018-2019)

Jack made his debut for the Brisbane Broncos in March 2018. He played at centre in a close 9–7 win.

He faced some challenges with injuries during his time at the Broncos. In 2018, he played 8 matches due to shoulder and sternum injuries.

In 2019, Jack returned to play for Brisbane in the first game of the season. He scored his first try for the Broncos in March 2019. Unfortunately, his 2019 season was cut short in May when he suffered a serious knee injury. He played 9 matches and scored 2 tries for Brisbane that year.

In 2020, Jack was ruled out for the entire season due to another knee injury he got during pre-season training. In November 2020, he signed a two-year contract to return to his junior club, the St. George Illawarra Dragons.

Return to St. George Illawarra Dragons (2021-2024)

Jack made his debut for the St. George Illawarra Dragons in March 2021. He played 22 matches for the club in 2021.

In 2022, Jack scored two tries in a big 46–26 win over the Gold Coast Titans. He played 23 games for the Dragons in 2022.

In 2023, Jack played 14 games for the Dragons.

In May 2024, Jack suffered an ankle injury during a game against Canterbury. In September 2024, he signed a two-year deal to join the Wests Tigers starting in the 2025 NRL season.

Joining the Wests Tigers (2025)

In March 2025, Jack made his club debut for the Wests Tigers in their first game of the season against Newcastle.
