Meet Jack and Holly
Jack and Holly are the two main characters in the show. Jack is voiced by Cillian Martin Wright, and Holly is voiced by Emilia Shuardson-Hipkin, and later by Julianne Martin. They are best friends. Holly is like the older sister Jack never had. Cillian Martin Wright, who voices Jack, said that Holly is always there to help Jack and the viewers learn about life and make good choices.
What the Show Teaches
This TV series is both educational and entertaining. It shares many facts for young children, along with fun stories. The director, Jezz Wright, said in 2010 that the show was made to be different from other fast-paced kids' programs. He wanted to create something truly educational.
The creators noticed that many educational DVDs didn't teach much. So, they decided to make their own show. Julianne Wright, the producer, mentioned in 2011 that their team was small compared to big studios like Disney. However, they hoped to create original content that parents would appreciate. They believe that all children's shows should aim for high educational standards. Teachers, experts, and parents helped develop the series to make sure it fit UK learning goals.
The show also celebrates everyone being included and different cultures. Jack comes from an ethnic background, while Holly is a typical Caucasian character. This mix helps show different kinds of people.
The creators wanted to make a product that would encourage kids to read and spend time away from screens. They also wanted to give parents topics to talk about with their children. In their second animated series, Cosmic Stories, they even added a timer on screen. This helps parents see how much time their child is watching TV.
How the Animation Was Made
The animation in Jack and Holly uses a special mix of styles. It combines machinima (animation made using video game engines) with live action footage. The creators used different software, including Moviestorm. This helped them make the series quickly and without spending a lot of money. Sometimes, real-life video is mixed with animation to create a unique look.
Even though the characters might look a bit like Japanese Anime cartoons, they have their own special design. They don't have legs; instead, they float, fly, and hover! The colors used were chosen to be very appealing to younger children.
The original ideas for Jack and Holly's character design came from graphic artist Bonnie Scott and Jezz Wright. These designs were changed a lot before the show started being made.
