The Name of Jacona
The name Jacona comes from the Tewa language. The Tewa people are Native Americans from the Rio Grande Valley. Their name for the area was Sakona. A pueblo, which is a type of village, was located here. This pueblo was left empty in 1696. The Spanish later used a similar name, Jacona.
