About Jacqueline Pearce

Jacqueline Pearce was born in Vancouver, Canada, in 1962. She went to the University of Victoria and studied English. Later, she earned a master's degree from York University. There, she focused on how we learn about and think about the environment.

While at York University, she helped start a student magazine called Undercurrents. Jacqueline Pearce also won an award for her short story "The Trickster" in 1988. This story was later published in a collection called Up All Night.

What She Writes About

Jacqueline Pearce writes many different kinds of stories. Her historical fiction books take you back in time. For example, The Reunion tells about a diverse community during World War II. It shows how Japanese-Canadians were affected by events at that time.

Another historical book, Discovering Emily, introduces young readers to the childhood of famous artist Emily Carr. Jacqueline Pearce also writes about animals and important life lessons. Her book Dog House Blues is about how people and animals interact, and it also talks about bullying.

This book was used in classrooms to help students learn about social responsibility. Both Dog House Blues and The Truth About Rats (and Dogs) were supported by the British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Later, her books Manga Touch and Mystery of the Missing Luck help young readers learn about Japanese culture.
