About Jacques Bravo's Life
Jacques Bravo studied at ENSAE ParisTech, a famous school in France. After graduating in 1968, he started working for the French Ministry of National Education. This ministry helps manage schools and education across the country.
Starting a Political Career
In 1983, Jacques Bravo began his journey in politics. He first worked at the Ministry of the Economy and Finance. Later, he became the Financial Director at the Ministry of Higher Education and Research. This role meant he helped manage the money for universities and scientific studies.
As a member of the Socialist Party, he tried to become a local leader in the 9th area of Paris. He ran in elections in 1983, 1989, and 1995, but he didn't win those times.
He was also part of the board of directors at ESPCI Paris, another important school. He was there when two scientists, Pierre-Gilles de Gennes and Georges Charpak, won the Nobel Prize in Physics. In 1993, he was named Inspector General of Education in the Limousin region.
Becoming a Local Leader
Jacques Bravo finally won the election for the 9th arrondissement of Paris in 2001. He received more than half of the votes in the second round. After this victory, he became the Mayor of the 9th arrondissement. He also became the President of the Finance Commission for the Paris City Council. This meant he helped manage the city's money. In 2008, he was re-elected as mayor with even more votes.
Awards and Later Years
In 2013, Jacques Bravo received a very special award called the Legion of Honour. This is one of France's highest awards, given to people who have done great things for the country. He was given the rank of Commander.
In the 2014 local elections, Jacques Bravo decided not to run for mayor again. He passed away on 18 December 2019, at the age of 75.
