How Jaffa Crvenka Started
Jaffa Crvenka began in 1975. It was started by several business people from the Crvenka area. Just one year later, in 1976, they started making Jaffa Cakes biscuits. They got a special permission, called a license, from McVitie's to make these cakes.
In 1978, the "Jaffa" biscuits brand was officially protected by law in the country that was then called SFR Yugoslavia. A few years later, in 1981, Jaffa introduced a new product. It was called Munchmallow. This treat has a soft, fluffy egg white cream filling on a thin biscuit, all covered in a layer of chocolate.
Growing Their Sweet Product Range
From 2004 onwards, Jaffa started to make many more kinds of products. They began with O'cake biscuits, which are made with whole grains. They also created new flavors for their popular Jaffa Cakes and Munchmallow treats.
In 2006, they introduced Domaći keks, which means "Homemade biscuits." These were a type of teacake. The next year, in 2007, Jaffa made their own versions of the Petit Beurre and Polo biscuits.
In 2008, Jaffa decided to make salty snacks too! They launched the Tak brand, which included crunchy salty crackers. In the same year, they also introduced their own brand of Napolitanka wafers. These are thin, crispy wafers with creamy layers.
By 2013, the company was making a huge amount of sweets. They produced about 12,000 tonnes of confectionery products every year!
New Company Joins Jaffa
In 2017, Jaffa bought another sweet-making company called Banini Kikinda. They paid €15 million for it. Banini had to sell its factory in Kikinda to pay back money it owed.
