Jaime Gavilán's Football Journey
Starting His Career at Valencia
Jaime Gavilán was born in Valencia, Spain. He grew up playing football in the Valencia CF youth system. He made his first appearance for the main team in La Liga just before his 18th birthday. This was on April 19, 2003, in a game against Real Valladolid. He also spent two full seasons playing for Valencia's reserve team, Valencia B, in the third division.
Gavilán slowly started to join the main team after being loaned out twice. He was loaned to CD Tenerife in the second division and then to Getafe CF. Even though he had a serious knee injury in the 2006–07 season that kept him out for six months, he kept working hard.
In November 2007, a new coach, Ronald Koeman, arrived at Valencia. Gavilán was then loaned to Getafe again until the end of the 2007–08 season. During this second time with Getafe, he played a lot. He even scored a goal in a 2–1 home win against Racing de Santander on March 16, 2008. He also helped Getafe reach the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup that season.
Playing for Getafe
On July 15, 2008, Gavilán officially joined Getafe with a four-year contract. In his first full season, 2008–09, he was a regular player in the midfield. On April 12, 2009, he scored the only goal in an important win against Sevilla FC.
In the 2009–10 season, Gavilán played in 27 league games. Getafe finished sixth in the league, which meant they qualified for a European competition for only the second time ever. On March 6, 2011, he got the same knee injury again during a game against Sporting de Gijón. This injury kept him from playing for the rest of the 2010–11 season.
Moving to Levante
In June 2014, Gavilán became a free agent, meaning he could join any team. He signed a two-year contract with Levante UD, another team in Spain's top division. However, he only played in six games for them. On January 30, 2015, he left the club.
Playing Football Abroad
After a short time playing in Greece for Platanias FC, Gavilán moved to India. On June 18, 2015, he signed with Indian Super League team Atlético de Kolkata. After that, he played for Suwon FC in South Korea. Then, he returned to India to play for Chennaiyin FC.
Back in Spain with Alcorcón and Sanse
On July 6, 2018, Gavilán, who was 33 years old, came back to Spain. He signed a two-year contract with AD Alcorcón in the second division. However, he only played in eight league games for them. On July 9, 2019, he ended his contract with the team.
On August 10, 2019, UD San Sebastián de los Reyes announced that they had signed Gavilán. He played for them until 2021.
International Career
Jaime Gavilán also played for Spain's youth national teams. He was part of the Spain U16 team that won the UEFA European Under-16 Championship in 2001. He also won the UEFA European Under-19 Championship with the Spain U19 team in 2004. In 2003, he was part of the Spain U20 team that finished as runner-up in the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Before the 2006 FIFA World Cup, Gavilán was invited to train with the senior Spain team. However, he was not chosen for the final World Cup squad and never played a full game for the senior national team.
