James Brown (born on February 19, 1990) is an Australian soccer player. He currently plays for National Premier Leagues club Hume City FC. James also played for Australia's national youth teams, including the Under-23 team. He played 82 games in the A-League for teams like Gold Coast United, Newcastle Jets, and Melbourne City between 2008 and 2016. James is also an Indigenous Australian.

James Brown's Soccer Journey
James Brown started his soccer journey in the Tweed Heads area of New South Wales, Australia. He played for local clubs like Bilambil F.C. and Kingscliff Soccer Club. Later, he moved to play for Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast.
Early Training and Development
James was noticed by several talent scouts. He played for the Gold Coast Representative Side and an Australian team at the Under 13 National Championships. He then joined the Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS). In 2007, he signed with the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS).
James had a great start to the 2007 Victorian Premier League season. He became a regular and important player for the AIS team. He scored 4 goals in 22 games. He played alongside other talented players like Luke De Vere and James Holland.
Playing for Gold Coast United
On December 9, 2008, James Brown signed a three-year deal with Gold Coast United. In 2009, he broke his right fibula (a bone in his lower leg) during training, which kept him off the field for eight weeks.
- First Senior Goal: On January 13, 2010, James scored his first goal as a senior player. It was in a 2–0 win against the Newcastle Jets.
- Exciting Goals: In the first game of the 2011 season, James scored a fantastic late goal. This helped his team draw 1–1 with Wellington Phoenix. This goal was even voted "goal of the week"!
- More Goals: He scored another great goal in the next game, a 1–1 draw against the Central Coast Mariners. In Round 4, he scored in a 3–1 win over the Newcastle Jets. He was named "Young Player of the Month" for October.
Time with Newcastle Jets
On February 15, 2012, it was announced that James had signed a two-year contract. This was with the A-League club Newcastle Jets. He started playing for them at the beginning of the 2012–13 A-League season.
Joining Melbourne City
On May 20, 2014, James Brown joined Melbourne City. Two other young players, Connor Chapman and Jacob Melling, also joined the team. James scored his first goal for Melbourne City in the 70th minute against Sydney FC. This goal helped his team's chances of making it to the finals. On April 28, 2016, James left Melbourne City.
Short Stays at Other Clubs
- Avondale: On May 19, 2016, James joined National Premier Leagues club Avondale. However, he left the club after only one month.
- Cape Town City: In August 2016, James moved to South Africa. He joined a new team called Cape Town City in the South African Premier Division. He played only 3 games before leaving the club in October 2016.
- Nunawading City: In early 2017, James signed with NPL Victoria team, Nunawading City FC. He scored a goal in his very first game for them against the Eastern Lions in Round 1 of the 2017 season.
