James Curtis DeBarge (born August 22, 1963) is an American R&B and soul singer. He was a member of the famous singing group DeBarge. This group became well-known in the mid-1980s. They had hit songs like "All This Love", "Love Me in a Special Way", "Rhythm of the Night", and "Who's Holding Donna Now".
Early Life and Music Career
James is the seventh child of Robert DeBarge Sr. and Etterlene Abney DeBarge. He was born and grew up in Detroit, Michigan. Later, his family moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan.
James has worked with other musicians on different songs. For example, he made music with DJ Quik and Won-G. He also appeared on an album by rapper J-Ro.
The DeBarge Group
James often performs with his brothers, Mark and Randy, as part of the DeBarge group. Their nephew Andrew also plays bass with them. They have performed at concerts that celebrate music from the 1980s.
At these concerts, James often sings the main parts. The group has been very popular, sometimes even performing extra songs because the audience loves their music so much.
Personal Life
James DeBarge was married to the famous pop singer Janet Jackson for a short time in 1984. They lived at the Jackson family home, Hayvenhurst, during their marriage.
James has three children. His oldest daughter is Kristinia, born in 1990. He also has a son named James Jr., born in 1998, and a younger daughter named Tori, born in 2001.
Kristinia DeBarge appeared on a TV show called American Juniors in 2003. She later signed a record deal and became a singer herself.
James DeBarge is a Christian. He has performed gospel music with his brothers El and Mark.
