About J. H. Brennan's Books

James Herbert Brennan, often called Herbie Brennan, wrote many different kinds of books. He was especially known for his fantasy stories and books about magic.

Role-Playing Games and Gamebooks

Brennan designed some interesting role-playing games. One of them was called Man, Myth & Magic, released in 1982. In this game, players create characters and go on adventures. He also created Timeship. This game let players travel through time.

He also wrote many gamebooks. These are like "choose your own adventure" books. You make choices that change the story. His most famous gamebook series was GrailQuest. It had eight books about exciting Arthurian adventures. He also wrote two gamebooks just for French readers. These were Aztec Quest and Egyptian Quest.

Best-Selling Novels for Teens

Herbie Brennan's books became very popular around the world. They have been translated into about 50 different languages! One of his big successes was the Faerie Wars series. This fantasy novel became a The New York Times best-seller in the United States. It's a five-book series full of magic and adventure.

In 1995, he wrote two novels for the Horrorscopes series. He used the pen name "Maria Palmer" for these books. A pen name is a fake name a writer uses.

Exploring Ancient Mysteries

In 1998, Brennan published a book called Martian Genesis. This book explored interesting ideas about where humans might have come from. It looked at theories about ancient astronauts. These theories suggest that life on Earth might have been influenced by beings from other planets.

Books for Young Wizards

In 2003, Brennan wrote a special book for children. It was called The Book of Wizardry: The Apprentice's Guide to the Secrets of the Wizards' Guild. For this book, he used another pen name: "Cornelius Rumstuckle."

This book teaches kids how to become a wizard. It includes fun activities like making your own magic wand. It also talks about astrology, which is the study of how stars and planets might affect us. The book says that Cornelius Rumstuckle joined the Wizards' Guild in 1514. He became its youngest leader ever!

The story in The Book of Wizardry lets you be the main character. You learn to be a wizard and go on a "wizard's adventure." It's like a game where you use what you learned from the book. The ending is a bit of a mystery. It gives you a clue about where the Wizards' Guild is, possibly hinting at more adventures to come.

In 2011, another one of his books was republished. It was called The Secret History of Ancient Egypt.
