James "J.J." Johnson, born on February 25, 1943, is an American politician. He served as a member of the Delaware House of Representatives from 2005 to 2019. He was part of the Democratic Party.
Before becoming a politician, Mr. Johnson worked at the Chrysler car plant in Newark, Delaware. He was also a leader for the United Auto Workers union. This union helps workers get fair pay and good working conditions. He was also a member of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists.
During his time in office, he worked hard to make the justice system better. He also supported workers' rights, fought for equal rights for all people, and worked to make the economy fairer for everyone.

James "J.J." Johnson ran for office several times. Here's a look at how he won his elections:
Winning the First Election in 2004
In 2004, Mr. Johnson decided to run for the District 16 seat. This seat became open when the previous representative, William I. Houghton, retired. Johnson first won the Democratic Party's primary election. After that, he won the main election with 5,823 votes. This was a big win, as he received 81.5% of the votes against the Republican candidate, James Stockwell.
Later Elections: Running Unopposed
After his first win, James Johnson often ran for re-election without anyone running against him. This shows how much support he had from the voters in his district.
- In 2006, he won with 4,221 votes. No one ran against him.
- In 2008, he won with 7,078 votes. Again, he had no opponents.
- In 2010, he won with 5,328 votes. He was unopposed once more.
Facing Opponents in Later Years
Even when he had opponents, Mr. Johnson continued to win by a large margin.
- In 2012, he won the election with 7,613 votes. He received 96.5% of the votes against John Machurek, a candidate from the Libertarian Party.
- In 2014, he won with 3,802 votes, getting 82.5% of the votes against Republican candidate Gregory Coverdale.
- In 2016, he was unopposed again and won with 7,536 votes.
