James Scott (born in 1946) is a well-known British cardiologist. A cardiologist is a special doctor who focuses on the heart and its diseases. Professor Scott has spent many years studying and teaching about the heart. His work has helped us understand more about how our hearts work.

Becoming a Heart Doctor

James Scott started his medical journey by training at the London Hospital. He also studied in Birmingham. These early years helped him learn the basics of medicine. He then moved to the Royal Free Hospital in 1975. There, he joined the Academic Department of Medicine. This meant he was involved in both treating patients and teaching new doctors.

Research and Learning

From 1975 to 1980, Dr. Scott worked as a research fellow. He was part of the Medical Research Council. This important group helps fund medical research in the United Kingdom. During this time, he also worked at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School. He was an Honorary Senior Registrar, which is a senior doctor in training.

Later, he traveled to the United States. From 1980 to 1983, he was a European Molecular Biology Fellow. He worked at the University of California, San Francisco. This was a chance to learn new things and share his knowledge. After returning to the UK, he became a Clinical Scientist. He worked at the MRC Clinical Research Centre. This center was located at Northwick Park Hospital from 1983 to 1991.

Leading Medical Research

In 1992, James Scott became an Honorary Consultant Physician. He worked at the Hammersmith Hospital. This role meant he was a top doctor helping patients. He also became a Professor and Chairman of Medicine. This was at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School. He held this important position until 1998.

Imperial College London

From 1998, Professor Scott took on new leadership roles. He became the Director of the Genetics and Genomics Institute. This institute is part of Imperial College London. He also became a Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine. This was at the National Heart and Lung Institute, also part of Imperial College London. In these roles, he continued to lead research. He also taught many students about heart health.
