James Emmanuel "Doc" Sisnett was a farmer from Barbados who lived an incredibly long life. He was born on February 22, 1900, and passed away on May 23, 2013. This means he lived to be 113 years old! People who live to be 110 or older are called supercentenarians.

At the time of his death, James Sisnett was the oldest person ever from Barbados. He was also one of the oldest men in the world.

A Life of Many Years

James Sisnett was born in a place called Saint George parish in Barbados. Back then, Barbados was part of the British West Indies. It seems that living a long life ran in his family! His brothers and sisters also lived to be very old, reaching ages like 98, 99, and even 100.

Family and Work

In 1923, James Sisnett married Anita Dowling. They had five children together. Sadly, Anita passed away in 1937. Later, in 1942, James married Josephine Evelyn. With Josephine, he had six more children. When he died, nine of his eleven children were still alive.

James Sisnett worked as a farmer for most of his life. He kept farming until he was 100 years old, finally retiring in the year 2000. Even at an old age, he took care of his health. In 2006, when he was 106, he had an operation to fix his eyesight. This surgery helped remove cataracts, which are cloudy areas in the eye that can make it hard to see.

His Final Years

James Sisnett passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 23, 2013. He was at his home in Christ Church, Barbados. He was 113 years and 90 days old.

For a while, he was the oldest living man in North America. He was also the second oldest living man in the entire world! Only one other man, from Japan, was older than him at that time. James Sisnett and this Japanese man were the last two men alive who were born in the 1800s.
