James Stuart, 2nd Earl of Bute was an important Scottish nobleman. He was born before 1696 and passed away on January 28, 1723. He was the son of James Stuart, 1st Earl of Bute and Agnes Mackenzie.
Family Life
James Stuart married Lady Anne Campbell in February 1711. Lady Anne was the daughter of Archibald Campbell, 1st Duke of Argyll. Together, James and Anne had eight children.
Their children were:
- John Stuart, 3rd Earl of Bute (born May 25, 1713 – died March 10, 1792)
- James Stuart-Mackenzie (born before 1723 – died around April 1800)
- Archibald Stuart
- Lady Mary Stuart (born around 1713, died December 30, 1773). She married Sir Robert Menzies of Weem in 1729.
- Lady Elizabeth Stuart
- Lady Anne Stuart (born before 1723 – died November 28, 1786). She married James Johnstone in 1736, who later became the 5th Lord Ruthven of Freeland.
- Lady Jean Stuart
- Lady Grace Stuart
After James Stuart's death, his wife Lady Anne married Alexander Fraser, Lord Strichen.
