Jamestown is a small place in Clinton County, Illinois, United States. It is an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.
History of Jamestown
The first people to settle near Jamestown arrived in 1817. They were John King and his brother-in-law.
Later, in the 1840s and 1850s, many farmers from Germany came to live in this area. Jamestown itself was officially started on June 4, 1850. It was founded by two people named William Lenox and James Massey.
Churches in Jamestown
Jamestown has one church called the St. Paul United Church of Christ. It was built in 1908 by the people living in Jamestown and nearby areas. When it first opened, it was known as St. Paul's Evangelical Church.
At that time, many people in the area spoke German. So, the church mostly held its services in German. But over the years, more and more services began to be held in English.
