Jamie Soward (born November 13, 1984) is an Australian former professional rugby league player. He also worked as a coach for the St. George Illawarra Dragons Women team in the NRLW.

Jamie played for several teams during his career. These included the Sydney Roosters, Penrith Panthers, and the St. George Illawarra Dragons. With the Dragons, he helped them win the 2010 NRL Premiership. He also played in England for the London Broncos. Jamie represented New South Wales in the State of Origin series. He also played for the Indigenous All-Stars team.

Jamie Soward's Early Life

Jamie Soward was born in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory. He started playing junior rugby league for the Wagga Wagga Kangaroos. Later, he joined the Canberra Raiders system. He then moved to the Sydney Roosters Jersey Flegg team. In 2004, he helped the Roosters win the premiership by scoring two important field goals.

Jamie Soward's Playing Career

Starting with the Roosters (2005-2007)

Jamie Soward made his first NRL appearance for the Sydney Roosters in 2005. This was in Round 9 against the Newcastle Knights. He scored his first NRL try later that season. In his first year, he played 7 matches and scored 2 tries.

In 2006, Jamie played 14 matches for the Roosters. He scored four tries and kicked one goal. He also played in the 2006 NSW Cup grand final for Newtown. Newtown was the Roosters' feeder club at the time.

In the middle of the 2007 season, Jamie left the Sydney Roosters. He joined the St. George Illawarra Dragons. He played one match for the Roosters in 2007 before moving.

Success with the Dragons (2007-2013)

Jamie made his debut for the St. George Illawarra Dragons in Round 12 of 2007. He helped his new team win against the Brisbane Broncos. In Round 17, he set a new record for the Dragons. He scored 22 points in one game against the Canberra Raiders. This included a try and nine goals. In his first year with the Dragons, he played 14 matches. He scored seven tries and kicked 38 goals.

In 2008, Jamie continued to play well for the Dragons. He played 19 matches, scoring five tries and kicking 54 goals.

Jamie played for the Indigenous Dreamtime team in 2008. This was for the opening match of the 2008 Rugby League World Cup. He scored a try and kicked 5 goals in their win.

In 2009, Jamie scored 21 points in the annual Anzac Day match against his old team, the Sydney Roosters. He was the first player to score over 200 points in the 2009 season. He was named the Dally M five-eighth of the year. He played 26 matches, scored 12 tries, and kicked 90 goals for the Dragons.

Premiership Win (2010)

In 2010, Jamie was selected for the first ever Indigenous All Stars team. He scored the winning try in their 16–12 victory. He also became the Dragons' all-time top point scorer, passing Mark Riddell.

In the Preliminary Final, Jamie kicked a field goal from 35 meters out. This won the game for the Dragons 13–12 against the Wests Tigers. This sent St. George Illawarra to the 2010 NRL Grand Final. On October 3, 2010, Jamie helped the St. George Illawarra Dragons win their first Premiership. They defeated the Sydney Roosters 32–8 in the Grand Final. Jamie set up the first try and kicked 6 goals. He had a very successful year, playing 26 matches, scoring 6 tries, and kicking 84 goals.

State of Origin and Later Years with Dragons (2011-2013)

In 2011, Jamie was chosen to play for the New South Wales Blues in the 2011 State of Origin series. He played as a five-eighth. He played well in Game One and Game Two, helping the Blues win Game Two. He also played in the 2011 World Club Challenge, helping his team win. Jamie played 23 matches, scored four tries, and kicked 68 goals in 2011.

In 2012, Jamie played 20 matches for the Dragons. He reached his 150th career match in Round 26.

In 2013, Jamie's performance was not as strong. He signed a contract with the Penrith Panthers. Later, he joined the London Broncos in the Super League for the rest of the 2013 season. He played 12 matches for the Dragons before moving. In London, he scored 67 points in just nine games. He also helped the team reach the Challenge Cup semi-finals.

Time with the Penrith Panthers (2014-2016)

In 2014, Jamie joined the Penrith Panthers. He made his club debut in Round 1. In Penrith's Finals Week 1 match, he kicked a game-winning field goal against the Sydney Roosters. This led to a 19–18 victory for Penrith. He had a great first season with the Panthers. He played 25 matches, scored seven tries, and kicked 63 goals.

In 2015, Jamie had back surgery and missed some games. The Panthers struggled that season. Jamie played 16 matches and kicked 22 goals.

In 2016, Jamie played for the Indigenous All Stars again. He scored a try and kicked five goals in a game against the New Zealand Warriors. However, his form declined, and he was released from his Panthers contract. He then rejoined the London Broncos. On November 7, 2016, Jamie Soward announced his retirement from professional rugby league.

After Playing Rugby League

After retiring, Jamie Soward started working for Fox Sports in 2017. In 2018, he became a commentator for Channel 9.

In 2019, Jamie joined the 2GB Continuous Call Team as a co-commentator. He also launched a podcast called "Sweet and Soward."

In 2021, he joined the St. George Illawarra coaching staff as a kicking coach. He was also named the head coach for the 2022 St. George Illawarra NRL Women's Premiership team. He coached the NRLW squad until September 2024.

In September 2023, Jamie was appointed as the head coach of the Samoa Women's team.
