Growing Up and School
Jamila Taylor was born on December 9, 1975. She is the only daughter of Quintard Taylor Jr. and Carolyn Taylor. Jamila has a twin brother named William. She also has another brother, Quintard III.
Jamila went to Virginia State University and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. Later, she studied law at the University of Oregon School of Law. There, she earned a Juris Doctor degree. This degree allows her to practice law.
Her Career Path
After finishing law school, Jamila Taylor became a public interest attorney. This means she helps people with legal issues that affect the public good. She also owns her own law firm called NW Prosper Law.
Before becoming a state representative, Jamila ran for the Federal Way City Council in 2019. She was also one of three people chosen by local Democrats to fill a vacant seat. This seat was previously held by Kristine Reeves.
When Mike Pellicciotti decided not to run for re-election, Jamila Taylor announced she would run for his spot. She wanted to represent District 30 in the Washington House of Representatives.
Becoming a State Representative
In August 2020, Jamila Taylor won the Democratic primary election. This meant she was chosen by her party to run in the main election. In November, she ran against Republican Martin Moore. Jamila won the general election. She officially started her job on January 11, 2021.
