Janeé L. Ayers (born October 10, 1981) is an American politician. She is a member of the Democratic Party. Janeé Ayers served on the Detroit City Council. She was first chosen for the council in 2015. She was then elected and reelected to serve the people of Detroit.

About Janeé Ayers
Janeé Ayers was born in Detroit, Michigan, on October 10, 1981. Her mother, Shirlene, was a teacher in the Detroit Public Schools. She was also a member of the Detroit American Federation of Teachers (DFT). Janeé has four siblings, and three of them are also school teachers.
Early Life and Education
Janeé Ayers grew up in the North Rosedale Park area of Detroit. She went to Renaissance High School. After high school, she attended Bowling Green State University. In 2003, she earned a degree in Political Science and Public Policy.
Before Politics
Before joining the City Council, Janeé Ayers worked for the Detroit Recreation Department. She was also a high school science teacher. She taught at Millennium High School until it closed in 2007. While working for the Recreation Department, she was part of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) union.
After teaching, Ayers worked for MGM Grand Detroit. She joined the UNITE HERE! Local 24 union. She became very involved in helping workers. She was elected as a recording secretary. She was the youngest officer on the union's bargaining team. Later, she became the vice president of the Metro Detroit AFL-CIO.
Janeé Ayers' Political Journey
In 2015, a spot opened on the Detroit City Council. Many people wanted the job. Janeé Ayers was one of over 135 people who applied. She was chosen to be interviewed publicly. On February 17, 2015, the City Council voted. Janeé Ayers was appointed to the City Council.
Elections and Reelection
In 2016, Janeé Ayers ran in a special election. She wanted to keep her seat on the council. She won the primary election in August. Then, in November, she won the general election. She received more votes than any other candidate in a Michigan city election in the past ten years.
In 2017, Ayers ran for reelection for a full four-year term. She won the primary election in August. In November, she won reelection to her seat. She served the people of Detroit for several years. She was defeated in the November 2021 City Council general election.
Serving on the Detroit City Council
As a Council Member, Janeé Ayers worked on many important projects. One of her biggest achievements was creating the Returning Citizens Task Force. This program helps people who have been in jail or prison. It helps them get back into the community. The goal is to create a "one-stop" resource center for them. This center helps with things like finding jobs and housing.
