Janeé L. Ayers (born October 10, 1981) is an American politician. She is a member of the Democratic Party. In 2015, Janeé Ayers became a member of the Detroit City Council. She was first appointed to fill a vacant seat. Later, she was elected to the council and served until 2022.

About Janeé Ayers
Janeé Ayers was born in Detroit, Michigan on October 10, 1981. Her mother, Shirlene, was a teacher in Detroit Public Schools. Janeé has four siblings, and three of them are also teachers.
Janeé grew up in the Rosedale Park area of Detroit. She went to Renaissance High School. After high school, she studied Political Science and Public Policy at Bowling Green State University. She graduated in 2003.
Before joining the City Council, Janeé Ayers worked in different jobs. She worked for the Detroit Recreation Department. She also taught science at Millennium High School. Later, she worked for MGM Grand Detroit. There, she became very involved in helping workers. She was elected to leadership roles in labor unions, which are groups that protect workers' rights.
Her Time in Politics
In 2015, a seat opened up on the Detroit City Council. Many people wanted the job. Janeé Ayers was chosen from over 135 applicants. She was appointed to the City Council on February 17, 2015.
In 2016, Janeé Ayers ran in a special election to keep her seat. She won this election. Her total votes were the highest in a Michigan city election in ten years.
In 2017, she ran again for a full four-year term on the council. She won this election too. She continued to serve the people of Detroit. In the November 2021 City Council election, Janeé Ayers was not reelected.
Working on the Detroit City Council
As a City Council member, Janeé Ayers worked on many important projects for Detroit. One of her biggest achievements was creating the Returning Citizens Task Force.
Helping People Rebuild Their Lives
The Returning Citizens Task Force helps people who have been in jail or prison. When these people return to their communities, they often need help. This task force works to provide resources for them. The goal is to help them successfully get back into society. It aims to be a "one-stop" place for support.
