Early Life and Family
Lady Jane Douglas was born in London. She was the fourth daughter of James Douglas, 2nd Duke of Queensberry, and his wife, Mary Boyle. This made her a cousin of Francis Scott, who would later become her husband.
Marriage to Francis Scott
Lady Jane married Francis Scott on April 5, 1720. Their wedding took place at the Earl of Rochester's House in Privy Gardens, Whitehall, London. At the time, Francis Scott was known as the Earl of Dalkeith.
Children of Jane and Francis
Lady Jane and Francis had five children together. They had two sons and three daughters. One of their sons was Francis Scott, Earl of Dalkeith, born in 1721. He passed away in 1750.
Later Life and Legacy
Lady Jane died in 1729 in Langley, Buckinghamshire. She was buried at Dalkeith Castle in Scotland.
After Lady Jane's death, her husband, Francis Scott, later married Alice Powell. He had more children with his second wife. Both of his legitimate sons, including Francis Scott, Earl of Dalkeith, passed away before him. Because of this, his grandson, Henry Scott, 3rd Duke of Buccleuch, inherited the title of Duke after him.
