Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Jane Kathleen Sinclair Wells (born in 1952) is a talented British composer and saxophonist. She creates music and plays the saxophone.

Jane started her music journey at a young age at the Royal College of Music. Later, she spent five years studying music education at different universities. She learned how to compose music from famous composers like David Lumsdaine and Jonathan Harvey. Jane also took courses to work with older adults and people with learning disabilities, helping them make music.

Early Career and Community Music

From 1978 to 1987, Jane worked in London. Besides composing, she taught music to adults and led fun music sessions for children. She did this for places like the Battersea Arts Centre and the Gemini music group.

In 1987, Jane moved to the north Norfolk coast. She spent three years there as a composer and musician at a local arts center. This project grew into an organization called Norfolk Music Works. Jane worked with them until 1994. After that, she became a music worker for Lincolnshire county until 1998. She even started a music agency for the county called "Soundlincs." During this time, she was also a special composer for the PRS in education.

Music Groups and Choirs

In 2003, Jane joined the Hoofbeat Streetband. She played music with Chris Balch, Dawn Loombe, Richard Hall, and Derek Paice. They played instruments like the accordion, percussion, saxophones, and trombone.

Four years later, in 2007, Jane and Noralf Mork started leading the Big Heart and Soul Choir together. This choir was first formed in 1997 in Castleacre, Norfolk. What's special about this choir is that all the music is taught by ear. This means you don't need to know how to read music to join! The main goal of the choir is to have fun singing together as a group.

Music for Well-being

Jane also works as a tutor for the Natural Voice Network. She also helps with "Sing Your Heart Out," which is a series of workshops. These workshops are designed to help people feel better mentally by singing just for fun. They were first created for people using Norfolk Mental Health Services. Now, these workshops are free and open to everyone. They are supported by donations from people who want to help.
