Janet Archer facts for kids
Janet Archer was a British artist who was active from about 1873 to 1916. She was famous for her paintings of people (called portraits) and everyday life scenes (called genre paintings).
Biography
Janet Archer learned to paint from Hubert von Herkomer in a town called Bushey. After her studies, she lived in London, in areas like Croydon and Chelsea.
She painted many different kinds of pictures. Between 1873 and 1893, she showed several of her works at the important Royal Academy in London. Some of these paintings included Feathered Friends, An Arab's Head, and a view of Port Isaac, Cornwall.
Other paintings she showed were Children of the Great City, There's Father's Boat, and The Orange-seller. Janet Archer also displayed her art with other groups, such as the Royal Society of British Artists and the New Watercolour Society. From 1875 to 1913, she also exhibited her work with the Society of Women Artists.
